Boyle The Kiwi Conqueror In 8:08.62

Dec 13, 2012  - Craig lord

Istanbul, World Short-Course Championships, Day 2 finals:

Women's 800m freestyle

Lauren Boyle was the toast of New Zealand tonight after battling to an 8:08.62 victory over 2009 world champion Lotte Friis (DEN) on 8:10.99, the bronze going to Chloe Sutton (USA) in 8:15.53, medley ace Hannah Miley (GBR) locked out by just 0.56.

Boyle's effort marks the third best ever in a textile suit from a race that went without Olympic 400m champion Camille Muffat, the Frenchwoman who set a world record of 8:01.06 at French nationals a few weeks ago but opted to skip Istanbul. Friis's textile best is all-time No2, at 8:04.77, just 0.16sec away from her all-time best.
