Conger At The Double In Honolulu

Jack Conger (USA) earned the backstroke double a Junior Pan Pacs in Honolulu with a 1:57.20 meet-mark victory in the 200m, a class up on those who followed him on to the podium, Keita Sunama (JPN), 1:59.57, and Corey Main (NZL), 1:59.67. Conger clocked 27.81, 57.40 (29.59), 1:27.65 (30.25) on his way to a 29.55 last lap.

The USA took five other victories, Leah Smith on a meet mark of 4:07.10 in the 400m freestyle, teenager Maclin Davis taking the 100m butterfly in 52.89, Kylie Stewart the only sub-2:10er in the 200m backstroke, on 2:09.99, and both 4x100m freestyle relays, the women in 3:41.04, the men in a meet mark of 3:18.67, Jack Conger taking his second gold of the session.

The American assault was halted in just two events, Matthew Levings and Mack Horton gave Australia a 1-2 finish in the 400m freestyle on 3:51.71 and 3:52.26, while Canada's Noemie Thomas, 16, was the first of four girls under the minute in the 100m butterfly, her 59.02 effort keeping at bay respective effort of 59.36 and 59.49 for Australia's Brianna Throssell and Japan's Rino Hosoda, New Zealand's Sophia Bachelor locked out in 59.78.
