Hols? For The Slayer? No Way

Aug 16, 2012  - Craig Lord

Chad Le Clos, otherwise known to all from the back of his 14-year-old bro Jordan's t-shirt as "My Brother, My Player, The Phelps Slayer", was back in winning action today at the South African short-course championships in Pietermaritzburg.

You might think they all needed a holiday but places on the national world s/c champs team were up for grabs and so the opening day had six swimmers making it for the trip to Turkey come December.

Le Clos took the 200m freestyle in 1:45.08 ahead of Darian Townsend, 1:45.38; Roland Scheman beat the Phelkps Slayer in the 50m butterfly 22.80 to 23.81; and Darren Murray became the fourth man to book a ticket to Istanbul, on 52:84 in the 100m backstroke.

Jessica Pengelly won the 400m medley in 4:35.95 ahead of Kathryn Meaklim, on 4:39.10, both inside the Turkey chop.

The RSA team for the world s/c course, so far:

  • Chad le Clos - 200m freestyle, 50m butterfly

  • Jessica Pengelly - 400m individual medley
