Cougars Widen Lead At Patriot Invitational

FAIRFAX, Va. - The Washington State University women's swim team widened its lead to 230 points after day two of the three-day Patriot Invitational at George Mason University Saturday.

Cougar swimmers recorded wins in three out of the six events held Saturday, for a total score of 663 points. Ohio University holds second place with 433, and Boston College is in third with 322.

Taryn Ternent, a freshman from Edenvale, South Africa, has played a part in four Cougar wins during the meet. Ternent won the 100 backstroke in a time of 57.25 seconds, the third fastest time in WSU school history. She also led the 200 medley relay team, along with Andree-Anne LeRoy (Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada), Christina Swanson (Bainbridge Island, Wash.), and Lindsay Henahan (Rochester, N.Y.), to victory. In addition, Ternent won the 50 freestyle and helped lead the 200 freestyle relay team to victory yesterday.
