Georgia Spoils Gator Attack

Nov 3, 1999

Georgia toppled traditional rival Florida at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on Friday Oct. 29, posting scores of 148-94 for the men and 136-93 for the women.

The Lady Bulldogs earned nine firsts in the 13-event field, led by the efforts of senior co-captains Courtney Shealy (50m free, 25.52) and Kristy Kowal (200m IM, 2:14.70). Shealy was out of the water after her 50m free performance, suiting up for the Georgia volleyball team for the third "Shealy double-header" of her career. Newcomers Becky Wilson (1,500m free), Stephanie Buck (200m fly) and Maritza Correia (400m free) also added to the Georgia efforts with first place finishes as did Kim Black (200m free), Stefanie Williams (100m free) and Keegan Walkley (200m back).

The Bulldogs met with similar success with an early victory in the 400m medley relay and continued their winning form through the remainder of the meet. Nicolas Kintz won the 200m free and senior co-captain Beau Wiebel won the 200m IM. Sophomore backstrokers Marc Lindsay and Yoav Gath tied for first in the 200m back in blazing pace of 1:58.36. Sprinters Chris Murray (50m free) and John Stratman (100m free) also tallied victories for the Georgia cause while junior Jud Campbell captured the top spot in both diving events for the second straight outing, tallying scores of 348.45 on 1-meter and 331.20 on 3-meter.
