Georgia Southern University Cuts Mens Swimming

Mar 10, 1999

Georgia Southern University will follow the likes of other Division I schools such as UCLA, Arkansas and Illinois and drop its men's swimming program. In order to comply with "Title IX" the school is also dropping men's cross-country next year and adding women's indoor and outdoor track.

GSU says the siuation was brought on by a problem with funding. There claim of not enough budget money is being challenged by a group of parents, students, and faculty that are upset with both the decision and the method used to reach the decision.
