Wyoming Teams Sweep Metro State In Final Dual Of Season

Feb 3, 2000

LARAMIE, Wyo - In their final dual meet of the 1999-2000 season, the University of Wyoming men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated Metro State University at Denver, Colo. The Cowboys won 148-71, while the Cowgirls bounced back after an emotional victory over Colorado State Friday night, winning 158-61.

"We really swam some people in some off events in order to get ready for the conference championships." UW head coach Tom Johnson said. "For the most part, the kids swam pretty well. The girls came out a little flat, coming off yesterday's big win over CSU."

The women won every swimming event Saturday. Sophomore diver Sadie West (Sheridan, Wyo.) qualified for the NCAA Zone Championships in the one-meter. She joins teammates Wendy O'Connell and Dominy Alderman who qualified Friday against CSU.

"It was a good confidence builder going into the conference tournament." Johnson said.

With the victories, both teams end the season with only one loss. The men finished the season with an overall record of 5-1, 2-1 in conference. The UW women finished the year with an overall record of 7-1, 3-1 in conference.

Wyoming's divers will finish the season Feb. 4-5 at the Air Force Diving Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo. The rest of the team will now concentrate on the Mountain West Conference Swimming and Diving Championships which will be held in Oklahoma City, Okla., Feb. 16-19.
