Clemson Swimming & Diving Teams Split at NC State

RALEIGH, NC - The Clemson men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed against NC State at the Willis Casey Aquatics Center in Raleigh, NC, on Saturday. The Clemson women took a 163-78 win, while the men were defeated 152-91.

The Tiger women won 10 of 13 events for the victory. Freshman Jenna Burtch won the 50 free in 23.65 and the 100 free in 51.93, while sophomore Emily Hustead won the 500 free with a time of 5:04.01 and the 1000 free with a time of 10:29.35. Both Clemson's 200 medley and 200 free relay teams claimed first place.

Freshman Liz Dwors won the 200 free with a time of 1:52.96, and sophomore Ginny Kirouac won the 200 IM in 2:07.28. Sophomore Katie Mizell placed first in the 100 fly at 58.50, and freshman Mandy Commons was first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:37.58.

In the diving events, junior Betsy Potter finished second on both the one-meter (259.875) and three-meter boards (284.93). Senior Aly Susterka was third in the three-meter event at 276.98 and fifth in the one-meter event with a score of 223.125.

Matt Norman, who won the 100 breast with a time of 58.40, was the lone winner for the Tiger men. Freshman Craig Thomas finished second in both diving events, scoring 268.95 on the three-meter board and 289.43 on the one-meter board. Freshman Nate Spice was third in the one-meter competition with a score of 239.40, and junior Chris Anderson finished third in the three-meter competition with a score of 267.075.

With the win, the women's record improves to 8-3, 1-2 ACC. The men drop to 7-2, 2-2 ACC with the loss.
