Walker, Kowal, USOC Athletes of the Month

For the first time, swimming has swept the USOC Awards for the month.

Neil Walker, Kristy Kowal and the U.S. Men's 4x200m free relay gave swimming a clean sweep of the March awards.

Walker received 70 points in the voting for the USOC Male Athlete of the Month for his performances at the FINA World Short Course Swimming Championships in Athens, Greece. He won five gold and two silver medals and in the process set 5 world and 7 american records.

The U.S. Men's 4x200m free relay won the team event based on its World Record performance at the same meet. The team which included Walker, Josh Davis, Scott Tucker and Chad Carvin set the world record with a time of 7:01.33.

Kristy Kowal of the University of Georgia was named the USOC Female Athlete of the Month for winning 4 events at the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis. She led her team to its second straight NCAA Championship title by winning the 100m and 200m breaststrokein American Reocrd times , winning the 200 IM and 4x100 Medley Relay break the World Record. She was also named the NCAA Swimmer of the Year.
