Heemskerk Takes In Rio On Way To 2016

Brazil: Femke Heemskerk (NED) was the star of the first of finals at the Maria Lenk Trophy, Brazil's world-titles qualifier in Rio, a 1:58.14 in the 200m free the only sub-2mins effort in the race. Guilherme Guido just missed the cut for automatic qualification to the world championships in Barcelona this summer, his 54.80 effort in the 100m backstroke granting him narrow victory over Leonardo de Deus, 54.98 and Fabio Santi, 55.09. Jessica Cavalheiro clocked 2:00.69, Manuella Lyrio on 2:01.25. In other action, Etiene Medeiros took the 100m back in 1:02.19 after a 1:01.00 in heats and a significant slowdown in the final. Marathon ace Poliana Okimoto took the 1500 freestyle in 16:32.85. Results in full.

France: The French federation has confirmed the names of the team announced for the world championships in Barcelona this summer and posted on the last day of nationalised in Rennes on April 14. The FFN also announced teams for the Mediterranean Games in Turkey on June 21-25 and the Universiade in Kazan, Russia, on July 10-16.
