Brits To Warm-Up At Cyprus Camp

Apr 16, 2013  - Craig Lord

Athletes from the British Gas ITC Loughborough in England are off to Cyprus for a warm-weather training camp as they prepare for World Championships in Barcelona this summer.

The Loughborough squad, which will not include Liam Tancock and Francesca Halsall, will spend 12 days in warm-weather training at the Coral Beach Hotel and Resort near Paphos. Cyprus hosted the Athens 2004 Olympic team from Britain and has become a regular haunt for the national-team programme.

The sprinters are staying home in Loughborough while others from the Loughborough unit are away. All have a date with international action in mind: Britain's trials for the world championships will be held in the last week of June in Sheffield.

Kevin Renshaw, senior coach at the British Gas ITC Loughborough, said: "As a training group we come back to Cyprus every year because it provides a perfect environment for us to work towards our collective goals.

“The outdoor facilities on offer, the location and our fantastic hosts ensure we have everything we need to undertake a good preparation for our national trials and World Championships this summer.”
