The pool swimming part of the inaugural $500,000 Aquatic Super Series was won by Australia today in a tri-nations victory over teams from China and South Africa at the Challenge Stadium in Perth, Western Australia.

Matt Targett produced upset when he got the better of teammate James Magnussen to give Australia a 22.00 to 22.21 finish in the 50m free, third place going to China's Lu Zhiwu (22.59). The class act among women was Cate Campbell (24.46), ahead of sister and Aussie teammate Bronte (25.11), with South African Trudi Maree (25.50) third.

In the men's 100m butterfly, Chris Wright (52.69) and Jayden Hadler (52.77) gave the hosts a 1-2 finish over China's Chen Yin (54.17) after China's Ying Lu (58.57) took the women's equivalent ahead of Australia's Alicia Coutts (58.66) and South Africa's Marne Erasmus (1:00.23).

The men's 200m breaststroke went to 100m winner Christian Sprenger (2:11.27) over teammate Brenton Rickard (2:14.30) and China's Huang Yunkun (2:17.64). The women's race went 1-2 to the Aussies as well, Sarah Katsoulis (2:26.52) pipping Sally Foster (2:26.85), with China's He Yun (2:33.45) third.

The men's 4x100m freestyle went to Australia (3:18.33) over China (3:22.02) and South Africa (3:25.41). The women's 4x100m freestyle relay wen to Australia (3:39.05) over South Africa (3:49.75), after China was disqualified.

In a mixed 800m free in which the times cannot count (under FINA rules) because men and women raced together, Myles Brown (RSA) was first home among men in 7:59.12, over 7:59.58 for Ryan Napoleon (AUS), while  Shao Yiwen took the women's race in 8:34.35 over 8:45.24 for Meagan Nay (AUS).

Olympic silver medallist Emily Seebohm (AUS) clocked 59.77 to win the 100m backstroke ahead of Fu Yuanhui (CHN), 1:00.50, and Belinda Hocking (AUS), 1:00.87. 

The men's race produced upset when Feiyi Cheng (CHN), 54.42, kept Aussies Daniel Arnamnart (54.70) and Ashley Delaney (55.11) at bay.

In the women's 200m free,  Bronte Barratt and Aussie teammate Brittany Elmslie settled their argument 1:58.12 to 1:58.72 in Barratt's favour, with Guo Junjun (CHN) third in 1:59.59. The men's race went to Thomas Fraser-Holmes in 1:46.62 ahead of Aussie teammate David McKeon (1:48.50) and Hao Yun (CHN), on 1:50.00.

Ye Shiwen took the 400IM for China in 4:37.04 (last 50m, 31.76; last 100m, 1:03.61), over Australians Sam Hamill, 4:42.73, and Alicia Coutts, 4:44.90. The men's race went to China's Shun Wang (4:17.85) over Aussie Mitch Larkin (4:19.98) and teammate Daniel Tranter (4:23.53)  

The men's medley relay went to Australia in 3:36.36, ahead of China and South Africa, on 3:41.39 and 3:42.37. There was major in the women's medley relay to end the meet, gold going to South Africa in the women's 4x100m medley in 4:13.80 after Australia and China were disqualified.
