Jul 1, 2012  - Craig Lord

The last morning of prelims at US Olympic trials in Omaha saw two men go inside 15 mins over 1500m freestyle, Andrew Gemmel, knowing that there were two heats after his for 10 in all, determined not to lose out, his 14:57.29 remaining the top time by the close of play, with with teenager Arthur Frayler on 15:08.08 (their best through).

In heat 9, Connor Jaeger followed Gemmel inside the magic mark on 14:59.97 ahead of Peter Vanderkaay, on 15:08.93. Also through were Michael McBroom, Chad La Tourette, Sean Ryan, with Ryan Feeley locking the door to the last eight at 15:10.55. The final promises a great race after prelims that took three hours to get too and saw 60 men crack 16mins and 31 not.

In the women's 50m freestyle Jessica Hardy, 100m winner last night, set the pace in prelims at 24.55, with Christine Magnuson, Kara Lyn Joyce and Madison Kennedy inside 25 and Dara Torres on 25.00 and aiming to become the oldest teamster in town at the London Aquatics Centre this month. All through to semis in 25.58.
