Pacific Dolphin Swim Association

Nov 16, 2011  - Steve Price

The Pacific Dolphin Swim Association is proud to announce the new branding of its competition team name and image.  As of November 15, 2011 the official name of the team is the “Vancouver Dolphins” and the acronym will be “VAND”.  This replaces UBC Dolphins as the competition team name.  The new logos were designed by Ryan Mintenko, brother of Dolphin alumni and ex National Team member, Mike Mintenko.

Competing under the Vancouver Dolphin’s title at meets from the Age Group National level and above will be the Vancouver Pacific Swim Club, the Winskill Dolphin Swim Club and swimmers from the Pacific Dolphin Swim Association.  PDSA continues to have strong ties to the University of British Columbia and calls that their home base for all High Performance programs associated with the organization.

As the new Head Coach of the Vancouver Dolphins, Steve Price is excited about the updated team brand.  “With the opening of the new Aquatic Centre at UBC in 2014 and the redefined relationship with UBC Athletics, the new name and logo reflect the strong desire by all parties associated with the program to build this organization better than it ever was.  We are very optimistic by our team now and in the future.  This new logo will continue to reflect the quality of swimming the Dolphin program has been known for since its inception.”

In the new logo some elements of the old logo can be found along with homage to the world class city of Vancouver where this program has flourished since the early nineties.

Pacific Dolphin Swim Association

With the increasing participation in competitive swimming here in the Greater Vancouver area, there is an appreciation and desire for swimming excellence and the opportunity to compete in international and Olympic competitions. The Pacific Dolphin Swim Association is a cooperative response by three Vancouver area swim programs to "pool" their resources in order to create a comprehensive international level swim program which is available to all Greater Vancouver teams and swimmers throughout the province of British Columbia.  This program presently involves roughly 600 swimmers and the dedication of over 2500 Greater Vancouver residents.

The goal of the Association is to provide equal opportunity for all Greater Vancouver Youth to achieve their highest personal excellence in swimming at all levels. Since it's inception in 1990, the Pacific Dolphin Swim Association has allowed its swimmers to compete at the highest level, including the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games and Swimming World Championships. Due to the early successes and the continuing improvements, along with the opportunity to attend a world class educational institution (The University of British Columbia), the association now attracts some of the best swimmers from across Canada.

The west coast climate and full cooperation and support from those involved (including UBC staff, facilities staff, parents, volunteers and sponsors), has created an ideal training environment that allows the Pacific Dolphins and its members to achieve their goals.
