D'Arcy Given Retrospective Asthma TUE

Sep 5, 2010  - Craig Lord

Nick D'Arcy 'problem with a TUE (therapeutic use exemption) asthma form' has been resolved. After Sunday reports in Australia said that the fly aces place at the Commonwealth Games was under threat because paperwork expempting him from use of a banned asthma substance had gone missing, reporter Nicole Jeffery, at The Australian, shot down doubt.

D'Arcy was queried by FINA about his use of the asthma drug Formoterol after it showed up in a urine test in March this year. D'Arcy had applied for the exemption last November but FINA asked for more information, which Swimming Australia Limited provided by fax. "It wasn't until his drug test results came back in July that the national federation realised that FINA had not received all the paperwork it required", reports Jeffery today.

SAL forwarded the missing documents to FINA and the international federation placed the swimmer in the clear.

"There was a delay with some paperwork earlier in the year, which I worked with Swimming Australia to sort out and that has been finalised," D'Arcy told Jeffery. He confirmed that retrospective approval of his TUE was given about 6 weeks ago.
