
Munich: Olympic and world silver medallist over 100m butterfly and reigning European 50m champion Milorad Cavic (SRB) has emerged from a successful back operation at a clinic in Munich, Germany. The surgery will keep him out of action for the rest of the summer and the European s/c championships in Eindhoven, according to initial reports, though the Andrea Di Nino-coached swimmer hopes to be back in racing by the world s/c titles in Dubai in December.
Monaco: Former South African backstroke swimmer Charlene Wittstock, 32 and born in Zimbawe, is to marry Prince Alberto II of Monaco, 52, on July 8, 20122, the royal household has announced. The ceremony and celebrations will take place in Monaco. The couple met after Wittstock, still dripping from a win over 200m backstroke, was introduced to the Prince at the Monte Carlo international swim meet in 2000. The Prince is patron of the event, which these days forms part of the Mare Nostrum Tour.
