Aussie sprint ace Cate Campbell today announced that she is calling a halt to her 2010 long-course season, including pulling out of the Commonwealth Games and the Pan Pacific Championships owing to  "post-viral fatigue" brought on by a bout of glandular fever she suffered before domestic trials in March this year.

Campbell, 18, told reporters Down Under: "I've got what's called post-viral fatigue, which is an extremely mild form of chronic fatigue. If I continue to push through ... will most likely turn into chronic fatigue. Right now it is not career ending. It's just a tiny little hiccup in what will hopefully be a long and healthy career."

She vowed to battle back next year and return to her best in time for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

"They've recommended for my health right now and for future performances it will be more beneficial to pull off the (Pan Pacs) team," Campbell said. ""If I did continue to push through it could be extremely nasty and damage the 2012 goal. It is a year to refresh myself, catch up on schoolwork and be a little more like a teenager. I don't want to get to London feeling like the end of a marathon. I've had to come to the realisation that doing nothing is the best form of attack."
