Former Olympic and world-championship medallist Jenny Thompson (USA) has been slightly injured in an assault on Monday in which would-be robbers punched her in the face and tried to steal her scooter.
Thompson, 37, told US media today that she was riding through Brookline when a vehicle stopped behind her with its headlights out. Two people got out, punched her and attempted to steal the bike, the swimmer reported.
Never one to give up in the race pool, Thompson showed a fighting spirit intact: she held onto the scooter, screamed for help and stood her ground as her assailants fled. Three teenagers were later arrested, while Thompson was treated at the scene for a cut to her nose and several scrapes.
