
Sweden: Greg Salter is reported to have been appointed head coach to Sweden. Salter was a 2006 Telstra Coach of the Year finalist Down Under. He won the 1995 NSW Coach's Coach of the Year award and ten years later won the prize for a second time. His charges have included a long line of backstroke aces, among others, including former world 50m record holder Sophie Edington and Dyana Calub.
Brazil: Kaio Almeida, 200m 'fly s/c world record holder, has signed a contract with the Fluminense club up to an including the London 2012 Olympic Games. The South American 'fly ace has been training there since early 2009. Kaio Márcio Ferreira da Costa Almeida, now 25, started to swim at 9 under medical advice given to the parents of an asthma sufferer. At the signing of his contract, coach Luis Rafael said: "Today, we have reaped a harvest here in Fluminense [Rio de Janeiro], one that many clubs reached out for but couldn't get hold of." Almeida said: "The first link I had to Fluminense was through family. My granddad played football for the club. He had lots of stories to tell. He wanted to be here today but he's 82 and lives in Paraíba, so it would have been complicated." He spoke of the magic atmosphere at Fluminense and of being "happier than ever in the sport of swimming".
