Dutch Delight: Win 10,000 Euros In Textile
Oct 14, 2009 - Craig Lord
While the bounty hunters in bodysuits have a little while longer to pick up world-cup prizes of $10,000 a world record in performance-enhancing kit, those preparing for the suits regime of 2010 have a better target to aim for: the Eindhoven Swim Cup - textile-only suits and 2010 suit profile limits obligatory - is offering euros 10,000 to any swimmer who races inside the world record that stood as such on December 31, 2007, before the advent of shiny suits.
Now there's a fine incentive and challenge to mark the rebirth of a technique-based sport. Jacco Verhaeren, Dutch head coach, noted: "This to underline that we return to textile records again and give swimmers a fair chance to break them." Get those entries in. The meet takes place at the Pieter van den Hoogenband Zwemstadion on November 27-29, and the retired sprint ace is the main man on the organisational side of the pool these days.
More information and entry details can be found at the meet website.
For the record, here are the world records that were in place on December 31, 2007, the times that the FINA technical Swimming Committee will need to consider if it is serious about restoring justice, fairness and incentive to current and next generation of world-class swimmers:
