In Angers, Coralie Balmy clocks 1:53.18 to wipe out Lenton's 200 free mark and Amaury Leveaux sizzles to a 22.29 50 fly ahead of 22.37 for Rafa Munoz of Spain

Here are the latest world records in techno year:

  • Coralie Balmy (FRA): 1:53.18 200 free, inside the 1:53.29 set by Libby Lenton in 2005 and ahead of the 1:53.48 of fellow Frenchwoman Laure Manaudou that had been second-best to the Australian.
  • Amaury Leveaux (FRA): 22.29 50 'fly, whacking Aussie Matt Jaukovic's 22.50 from October to smithereens. Second was Raphael Munoz (ESP) in 22.37, while Fred Bousquet (FRA) took third in 22.63. He must have wondered what had hit him: he had broken the French national record in prelims, lowering the mark from 22.96 to 22.72. Leveaux also holds the European record now, swamping the 22.62 of Johannes Dietrich (GER), clocked last month.

Elsewhere, Laure Manaudou clocked 57.99 to win the 100 back ahead of Alexiane Castel, on 58.85, Alain Bernard, 25, set a national record of 1:43.40 in the 200 free. His previous best was 1:45.93 from last year, and his latest progress makes that a gain of almost 6sec in three years.

Other French records to fall:

  • Camille Lacourt 100 back: 50.94.
  • Sophie De Ronchi, 200 breast: 2:22.90 after 2:22.96 in heats - previous best for the 23-year-old, 2:25.19
  • Hugues Duboscq, 27, 200m breast: 2:06.00 - previous best 2:08.70.
  • Diane Bui Duyet, 29, 50 'fly: 25.56 - best last season: 26.04 and best as a 23-year-old, 27.65.
