Three Italian short-course records fell at the 4th Gran Premio Italia in Viareggio on the Tuscan coast, where Federica Pellegrini, Olympic 200m free champion, gave her own eight-lap standard a scare with a 1:55.19 victory, within half a second of a best time that won't survive the winter.
The other records were: Ombretta Plos clocked 1:06.91 in the 100m breaststroke to shave 0.07sec off the standard that had stood to Chiara Boggiatto since December 2005; Francesca Segat won the 200m 'fly in 2:05.00, 0.91sec inside the mark that she set at worlds in Shanghai in 2006; and Elena Gemo finished second to Therese Alshammar (SWE) in the 50m 'fly in 26.52, to the winner's 25.93.
