Two more world records fell at the Stockholm round of the Arena World Cup tonight. Peter Marshall (USA) added the 50m backstroke global mark to the 100m standard that he set yesterday. Marshall clocked a sizzling 23.05. The two-lap mark had stood at 23.24 to Robert Hurley (AUS) since the Sydney round of the cup on October 26. Randall Bal (USA) was also inside the previous mark, just 0.02sec off the pace of his fellow American, on 23.07.

Sweden had cause to celebrate the close of its meet when the last race witnessed a world record of 25.31 for Therese Alshammar, world long-course champion, in the 50m butterfly. The standard had stood at 25.32 to Felicity Galvez (AUS) since she won the world short-course title in April. Just 0.06sec behind was Australian Marieke Guehrer, with Jeannette Ottensen (DEN) third in 25.41.

Elsewhere, the 1,500m freestyle went to Mads Glaesner (DEN) in 14:38.87; Hanna Maria Seppela (FIN) claimed the 100m freestyle in 52.44 ahead of Josefin Lillhage (SWE), on 52.79, with Ottesen third in 52.86.

Oussama Mellouli (TUN) won the 200m freestyle in  1:42.86 ahead of Paul Biedermann (GER), in 1:43.46, with Darian Townsend (RSA) third in 1:43.55. Townsend then matched Mellouli in the 200m medley, both men on
1:54.96.

Speedster of the moment, Cameron Van Der Burgh, coached by Dirk Lange, clocked 57.06 to win the 100m breaststroke, ahead of a 57.77 for Igor Borysik (UKR).

The 50m sprint free saw Frederick Bousquet (FRA) clock 20.97 to get the better of Stefan Nystrand (SWE) in 21.18 and Nick Brunelli (USA), in 21.22.

Katheryn Meakliim (RSA) continued to enjoy a great cup tour, taking the 400m medley in a world cup record of 4:27.21, ahead of improving British junior Emma Smithurst, on 4:35.29, and then the 200m breaststroke in 2:22.07.
