Flanders Cup, Belgium: Olympic champion Daniel Gyurta (HUN) clocked 2:10.50 to finish 6sec up on next-best home in the 200m breaststroke at his first long-course challenge of the year in Belgium. Later in the last session of the meet, Gyurta also claimed the dash, on 27.96 ahead of Brit Russell Smith's 28.65. Pieter Timmers got close to the 48.54 national mark he set in the heats of the 100m free at London 2012 when he clocked 48.76 to win the two-lap sprint at his home Cup meet ahead of BRABO teammate Glenn Surgeloose, on 49.37, and BZK's Jasper Aerents, on 49.42. Laszlo Cseh (HUN) held off Ward Bauwens (BEL, BRABO) in the 400m medley 4:18.50 to 4:18.96, the Belgian a couple of seconds outside the national mark he set at London 2012. Cseh returned later to win the 100m butterfly in 53.31 ahead of Egon Van Der Straeten (BEL,BRABO), on 53.67. In other action, Pal Joensen (FAR) took the 1500m free in 15:25.99 ahead of Britain's Max Litchfield (15:41.47) and Stephen Milne (15:53.45); Kimberley Buys (BEL) took the 100m butterfly in 59.42; Rikke Perdersen (DEN) clocked 31.03 to win the 50m breaststroke; Eleanor Faulkner (GBR) took the 400m free in 4:14.75; Danielle Lowe (GBR) clocked 2:14.78 to win the 200m medley; Lauren Quigley and Britain teammate Jessica Fullalove finished 1-2 in the 100m backstroke, on 1:01.05 and 1:02.24 respectively; Jlien Sysmans (BEL, BRABO) held off Rebecca Turner (GB) 55.90 to 56.01 in the 100m free;
Catalan Open, Spain: Melanie Costa, world s/c 400m free champion from Spain, completed a clean sweep of all 100m to 800m finals at the Catalan Open with a meet mark of 55.98 in the two lap battle. World 400m medley champion Hannah Miley (of Garioch and GBR) - after 4th in the 100m free and second in the 200m butterfly on 2:13.97 behind Judit Ignacio (Sabadell and Spain), 2:12.87, earlier in the session, won the 200m medley comfortably in 2:15.50. Miley returned to the fray to take second in the 1500m free in 16:46.80, the winner Claudia Dasca, Sabadell and Spain, on 16:29.07. In other action, Matias Aguilera took the 100m free in 50.95 over Eloi Saumell, on 51.71; and Albert Puig took a brace of victories, first in 2:03.36 over 200m butterfly and then in 2:06.13 over 200m medley.
