Olympic champion Ruta Meilutyte, of Plymouth Leander (her base in Britain with coach Jon Rudd) and Lithuania, set a meet mark of 30.90 to win the 50m breaststroke in the first final at the Euro Meet in Luxembourg, Katinka Hosszu (HUN) back in fifth on 33.13 at the start of another gold rush for the Hungarian in the midst of a eight-final bonanza.

World No 1 in 2012 when it came to racing more than any other swimmer in global elite pool waters, Hosszu was straight back in to win the 50m butterfly in 27.09, ahead of Germany's Dorothea Brandt, on 27.54, then had hardly drawn breath before taking the plunge in the 200m freestyle, from which she emerged victor once more, on 2:00.64. 

A quick adjustment of her goggles and it was to the blocks once more with her, this time for a 1:01.74 meet mark at the helm of the 100m backstroke ahead of Ukraine's specialist Daryna Zevina, on 1:02.19.

Next up for Hosszu, was the 200m breaststroke. Hosszu clocked 2:32.57: the Midas Touch intact, Caroline Ruhnau, of Essen, settled for silver in 2:33.53. Then followed victory for the Hungarian in the 200m butterfly on 2:12.26, the 200m medley, on 2:15.94 before she concluded the day with a 26.13 effort for 4th in the 50m freestyle.

The race went to Brandt in 25.36, 0.24sec ahead of Meilutyte, who had earlier won the 50m breaststroke ahead of Brandt (31.91) and her training partner in Essen Caroline Ruhnau (32.40).

Among men, Marco Koch, of Darmstadt, was the star of the show, on 2:10.53 to set the pace at the helm of the 2013 world rankings in the 200m breaststroke, with Igor Borysik (UKR), the man he had shared gold in the 50m breaststroke, on 28.30, at the start of the session, second in 2:14.41.

In 28.42, Essen's Hendrik Feldwehr took third in the 50m, while Brit-based Laurent Carnol (LUX), clocked 2:15.68 for third, 1.11sec ahead of world championship medallist of 2011 Christian Vom Lehn, of Essen and Germany. 

In other action, Francois Heersbrandt claimed the 50 'fly in 24.19 racing for the French division of the Belgian swim federation (just one Belgian fed is affiliated directly to FINA); Yannick Lebherz, of Potsdam and Germany, clocked 1:49.93 to win the 200m free ahead of Ukraine's Sergiy Frolov, on 1:50.25, the German returning later for a 2:02.29 victory in the 200m medley; Francois Schneiders, FLNS, took the 100m backstroke in 57.17; and Viktor Bromer, of Denmark's Aalborg swim club, added the 200m butterfly to his tally of wins in 2:02.56.
