Jukic To Retire After Being Suspended

Sep 19, 2012  - Craig Lord

Dinko Jukic, the Austrian butterfly specialist, has responded to a 10-month suspension handed down by the Austrian swimming federation by announcing his retirement.

The suspension was delayed until Jukic had raced at the London 2012 Olympic Games. The swimmer had been at loggerheads with authorities in his country after refusing to submit to an out-of-competition anti-doping control. At the time the swimmer cited concerns over hygiene as the reason why he did not wish to provide samples.

However, the latest trouble is reported to have broken out in a row over Jukic's training arrangements. The swimmer was accused of verbally insulting federation officials in the midst of arguments. At a federation meeting, only 1 in 10 of those who voted sided with the swimmer and a suspension was imposed.

Jukic told local media that he would not only retire but would sue the federation.
