Schoeman Dashes Past World S/C Cuts

On the third day of the South African National Short Course Championships in Pietermaritzburg, Roland Schoeman drove a horse and cart through four standards required to race at the world s/c championships in Turkey in December. 

In the 100m freestyle he clocked 46.50 to beat Darian Townsend, also inside target on 47.17, then in the 50m freestyle semi-final clocked 21.57, before 27.10 in the 50m breaststroke semi-final and then silver in the 100m medley in 53.62 on 52.92. Olympic gold medalist and world record holder Cameron van der Burgh sped to the final of the 50m breaststroke in 26.84.

The FINA World Short Course Championships will be held in Istanbul, Turkey from 12 – 16 December 2012.
