Wu Warms Up in 1:54.91 At Quebec Cup

Jul 9, 2012

The Quebec Cup provided a last staging post for world-class swimmers heading to London 2012, coach Mike Bottom's Club Wolverine squad to the fore in several events and US-based Wu Peng (CHN) registering a 1:54.91 200m butterfly for 4th best in the world this season.

Peng clocked 53.11 in the 100m 'fly but had too settle for silver behind Olympic silver medallist Milorad Cavic (SRB), who won the 50 'fly, 100m free and 'fly in 23.84, 49.32 and 52.86 respectively.

Duje Draganja (CRO) clocked 23.91 in the 'fly dash and 22.97 in the freestyle dash in a season wrought with political troubles back home at the Croatian federation. The freestyle dash was topped by a 22.01 from Trinidad's George Bovell.

Among women, Canadian Julia Wilkinson clocked 1:00.49 in the 100m backstroke and also took the 100m free, in 55.46 after a 55.39 in heats.

Times of 1:58.48 over 200m and 4:09.26 over 400m sent Wilkinson's teammate Barbara Jardin off to the Games, while Martha McCabe timed in at 1:08.67 and 2:26.65 over 100m and 200m breaststroke, Jillian Tyler second in the 100m in 1:08.86.

Katerina Savard and Erica Morningstar, on 59.25 and 2:13.77 respectively in the 100m butterfly and 200m medley, completed the Canadian warm-up.
