Rome: Irie V Lacourt; Half-Orange 100 Final

There are more fine clashes in store at the Sette Colli meet in Rome today, as Ryosuke Irie (JPN) takes on Camille Lacourt (FRA) in the 100m backstroke and Ranomi Kromowidjojo leads a half-orange final over 100m freestyle, a Dutch quartet taking on the best of Sweden and world champion Jeanette Ottesen (DEN).
Irie clocked 54.75 on backstroke this morning, Nick Driebergen (NED) on 54.97, Lacourt on 55.25. The Frenchman is the owner of the six best times ever clocked in a textile suit, led by the 52.11 in which he claimed the 2010 European crown.
Kromowidjojo led the way into the 100m final on 54.34, her teammates Marleen Veldhuis and Femke Heemskerk on 54.77 and 54.83, with Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom and Therese Alshammar on 54.84 and 54.92 and Ottesen on 55.10. The final is completed by Inge Dekker (NED), 55.31, and Haruka Ueda (JPN), 55.31.
Italian teenagers Gregorio Paltrinieri and Gabriele Detti led the way in the 1500m free heats on 15:05.69 and 15:13.93 respectively, Dutchman Job Kienhuis next through in 15:16.17.
