Anderson Leads Last London 10km Qualifiers

Jun 9, 2012  - Craig Lord

Off the Portuguese coast at Setubal today, Haley Anderson (USA) won the FINA Olympic Marathon Swim Qualifier for the last 10 places in the London 2012 10km race this summer.

Anderson edged out Hungary's Eva Risztov 1hr 44:30.6 to 1:44:32.0, the Hungarian ending the hopes of her teammate Anna Olasz, on 1:44:36.8 in third but without an Olympic ticket: just one per nation goes through at this stage.

Other qualifiers included:

  • Fang Yanqiao (CHN)
  • Zsofia Balazs (CAN)
  • Ophelie Aspord (FRA)
  • Natalie Charlos (POL)
  • Anna Guseva (RUS)
  • Karla Sitic (CRO)

Each marathon race, for men and women, in London will sport 25 athletes, 10 selected from the top 10 finishers at world titles in Shanghai in 2009; nine from the best eligible finishers in Setubal, 1 from the hosts, Britain (whether that place was sealed in Shanghai or Setubal), and five others per gender from the Setubal races under the one-per-continent right-to-race rule.
