Brits Set For Pre-Games Tour

Apr 27, 2012  - Craig Lord

Members of the British swim squad for the London 2012 Olympics and those still aspiring to a place on the team at last-chance saloon trials in June will race in a number of groups at several events around the world on the way to a home Games.

Beyond the marathon qualifier in June and second trials in Sheffield the same month, none of the meets on the circuit will witness Brits racing rested.

Michael Scott, National Performance Director for Britain said: “The range of teams and individuals being supported from now until the end of the summer competition season will prepare our Olympians for peak performances at Games time. At the same time it will also provide our Rio potential athletes with an opportunity to hone their skills and gain valuable experience in tough international environments such as the US Open Championships.”

Teams for the latter and the European Junior Championships in Antwerp on July 4-8 have yet to be announced, while swimmers based overseas, such as Ellen Gandy in Australia and Gemma Spofforth in the US, will race at local meets in May and June.
