On The Olympic Warm-Up Trail In Canet

Apr 24, 2012

The 25th Canet International, part of the Mare Nostrum Tour, will feature a strong line-up of international swimmers, with squads from Australia, Brasil, Cuba, Denmark, Ireland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Spain and the USA, set to compete.

At the helm of the action will be coach Fabrice Pellerin's double danger from along the coast at Nice, Yannick Agnel and Camille Muffat, while the sprint freestyle events promise tightness as Brent Hayden (CAN) and Yoris Grandjean (BEL) are among those taking on Frenchmen Grégory Mallet, William Meynard, Florent Manaudou and Fabien Gilot.

The first wave of entries announced by Canet reveals that Loughborough's Intenstive Training Centre will send its Britain Olympic team members, including world champion Liam Tancock (GBR), Olympic medallist Joanne Jackson (GBR) and European champions Francesca Halsall (GBR) and Elizabeth Simmonds (GBR).

World 50m freestyle champion Therese Alshammar (SWE) will take to her blocks alongside the likes of Halsall and Dutch pair Inge Dekker and Femke Heemskerk, while the latter's training partners at Cercle de Natation de Marseilles, including world 100m backstroke champion Camille Lacourt, will test themselves for the first time in international waters since the French Olympic trials.
