Several More Qualifiers In Moscow

Apr 21, 2012

On the 5th day of action at Russian nationals in Moscow, Nikolay Skvortsov made the London 2012 team with a 1:56.48 victory in the 200m butterfly but all others inside FINA A cut went that way in semis.

Irina Bespalov's 59.00 win in the 100m butterfly fell 0.3sec shy of the solo cut but a berth on the Russian medley relay beckons. Similarly, no qualifier in the women's 200m free in solo terms but Elena Sokolova, 1:58.81, Veronika Popova, 1:58.99, and Maria Baklakova, 2:00.36, are the top three candidates for the 4x200m relay.

In semis, Yuliya Efimova, on 2:25.38, and Anastasia Chaun, 2:26.10, got inside A cut in the 200m breaststroke and Anastasia Zueva cracked out a 59.21 in the 100m backstroke.

The men's 100 free final promises a boiling battle: Andrey Grechin, on 48.29, 4th in the world so far this year, led six men inside 49sec: Nikita Lobintsev, 48.37, Danila Izotov, 48.44, Vladimir Morozov, 48.56, Evgeny Lagunov, 48.74, and Sergey Fesikov, 48.88.
