Syracuse Women Defeat Massachusetts While Orangemen Lose

AMHERST, MA -- Syracuse freshman swimmer Annie Tudryn (Springfield, MA/Cathedral) set a pool record in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.67) and won the 200 breaststroke (2:20.05) on Saturday, Dec. 2, to help the Orangewomen to a 240-130 victory against Massachusetts at Joseph R. Rogers Jr. Pool. The SU women are now 3-1 in dual-meet action this season, while the Minutewomen suffered their first loss of the season (5-1).

The SU women set pool records in the 200 medley relay (1:49.77) and the 800 freestyle relay (7:53.66). The 200 medley relay was won by freshman Megan Daney (Newtown, PA/NRG Swimming), Tudryn, freshman Elyse McDonough (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central) and senior Eleanor Thoet (Bath, ME/Long Reach Swim Club). The victorious 800 freestyle relay consisted of Daney, McDonough, junior Kelly Bryon (Uxbridge, ONT/Uxbridge Swim Club) and Thoet.

Freshman Melissa Plummer (Newark, DE/Western YMCA) set a pool record in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:36.45. The Massachusetts men (4-2) defeated Syracuse, 239-127. The Orangemen are 2-2 in dual-meet competition this season.

Senior Ilia Mikhailov (Alta, Sweden/SK Neptun) captured first place in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events and in the process, he set pool records. In the 100 breaststroke, Mikhailov recorded a time of 57.41. In the 200 breaststroke, he posted a season-best time of 2:05.10.

Fellow classmate Josko Vucetic (Split, Croatia/POSK Swim Club) set pool records in the 100 backstroke (50.29) and the 200 backstroke (1:50.39). Senior Dustin Riley (Carson City, NV/Carson City Athletic Club) won the 200-yard butterfly versus the Minutemen (1:53.85). He touched third in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:06.03. The Syracuse men and women are off until winter training, January 2-9 in the Cayman Islands. The next dual meet for the team is January 20 at West Virginia.
