Virginia's Lane & Anderson Earn ACC Swimmer Of The Week Honors

Virgina's Cara Lane and Luke Anderson have earned the ACC Swimmer of the Week honors after leading the Cavaliers to first-place finishes in the six-team Cavalier Invitational over the weekend. Virginia's men's and women's teams combined to win 32 of the 42 events contested in the three-day meet. The men's team won 15 of 21 events, tallying 1,434 points, while the women's team tallied 1,046 points as the team won 17 of 21 events.

Lane, a sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., won her second Swimmer of the Week honor as she won three individual events and finished second in another. Lane won the 1650 freestyle with an NCAA qualifying time of 16:15.82. She also won the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:47.29 and won the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:00.30. Lane finished second in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:19.99. Lane also was a member of two first-place relay teams, as she helped the Cavaliers to first-place finishes in the 800 freestyle relay (7:27.46) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:28.36).

Anderson, a freshman from Charlottesville, Va., earned two indidivual first-place finishes and helped Virginia's relay teams to three first-place finishes. Anderson won the 50 freestyle in a time of 20.88 and won the 100 freestyle in an ACC-best time of 45.11. Anderson also finished fourth in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:40.47. Anderson swam a leg on several relay teams, helping the Cavaliers to first-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:23.60), the 400 freestyle (3:02.07) and the 800 freestyle relay (6:40.39). He also swam on the 200 medley relay team, which finished in fourth place in a time of 1:35.08.
