Rebel Women Drop Close Meet to Utah 117-114

The UNLV swimming team opened the conference season with a pair of meets against BYU and Utah. The men's team defeated Utah 149.5-89.5, but fell to BYU 98-143. The women's team dropped both meets, 114-117 to Utah and 97-144 to BYU.

Against BYU, the Rebels took both 1000 free events with Tera Sherard winning in 10:50.16 and Paul Valen winning in 9:50.34. Ebert (5:11.00) and Valen (4:45.94) also each won the 500 free events.

UNLV took both 200 free events as well, with Lorena Diaconescu winning in 1:50.97 and Jacint Simon winning in 1:41.04.

Julie Unrau won the 100 fly in 57.86, while Andrew Livingston took the 200 fly in 1:52.33.

In their first competition of the season, freshman diver Jessica Field won the 3-meter competition with a final score of 162.10. She took fifth in the 1-meter.

Ebert and Valen repeated their wins in the 1000 free on Saturday against Utah. Valen also won the 500 freestyle with Ebert taking second to fellow teammate Alyson Noble.

Diaconescu (1:51.67) and Tommy Zauder (1:44.86) picked up wins in the 200 freestyle events.

The trio of Bjorn Erikkson, Mike Short and Mike Schmidt went 1-2-3 in the 50 free. Erikkson won in 21.53.

Julie Unrau and Dana Penn went 1-2 in the 200 butterfly. Unrau's finished in a time of 2:07.90. Quinten Allen and Mike Short finished 1-2 in the 100 freestyle, with Allen finishing in 47.80.

Madalina Tin took the 200 breaststroke in 2:23.59. Livingston won the 200 IM in 1:55.61 and the 200 butterfly in 1:51.97.

Diver Lucas Richmond won the 1-meter with a score of 239.20 and the 3-meter with a score of 218.75. Fields repeated her 3-meter win on Saturday with a score of 239.40.
