SJU Swimmers Sweep Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, CONN. - The St. John's University men's swim team remained perfect in dual meet competition on the season with a 134-78 victory over Fairfield University Saturday afternoon. The women's team won its third meet in a row with a 131-80 victory over the Stags. The men's team improves to 6-0, while the women are now 4-3.

The Red Storm won every individual event on both the men's and women's side en route to the victory. Laura Nuudi was a double winner in the 200 IM (2:30.32) and the 100 fly (1:10.72), while Lisa Zuffante won the 200 free (2:16.01) and the 100 free (1:03.54).Elizabeth Malinowski took first in the 400 free (4:41.51) and the 800 free, while Irene Chan won the 100 back (1:12.75). Melissa Kolackovsky (28.91) and Kristy Beal (30.15) went 1-2 in the 50 free and Beal won the 100 breast (1:20.95).

On the men's side, Tom Rueger was a double winner in the 50 free (24.50) and the 100 free (53.53), while Greg Danner took first in the 100 fly (57.66) and the 100 breast (1:09.80). Other winners on the men's side included Daniel Wells in the 800 free (9:18.58), Mike Boody in the 200 IM (2:13.84) and Michal Szapiel in the 400 free (4:03.92).

The men's and women's swim teams return to action on Friday, January 19 when they travel to New Brunswick, N.J. for a tri-meet with BIG EAST rivals Rutgers and Seton Hall. The meet is scheduled for 4:00.
