North Carolina's Erika Acuff & Chris Helin, Virginia's Amy Baly Earn Swimmer Of The Week Honors

Virginia's Amy Baly and North Carolina's Erika Acuff and Chris Helin have earned ACC Swimmer of the Week honors after each swimmer won three events for their respective schools against ACC foes. Baly helped the Cavalier women's team down NC State, while Acuff and Helin helped the Tar Heels top Clemson.

Baly, a freshman from Atlanta, Ga., swam three events for the Cavaliers, winning all three of them as she helped Virginia to a 136-107 win over the Wolfpack. Baly won the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:19.73 and took first place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:51.42. She also won first place in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:21.17.

Acuff, a senior from Gladwyne, Pa., won two individual events and swam a leg on a first-place relay team as the Tar Heels downed Clemson, 153-90. Acuff set a new pool record in McHugh Natatorium as she won the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:02.23. She also won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 51.56. In addition, Acuff swam the butterfly leg on the 200 medley relay team that edged out the Tigers, 1:45.18 to 1:45.34.

Helin, a junior from Setauket, N.Y., also had three wins as the Tar Heel men's team topped Clemson, 164-79. Helin won the 200 individual medley in 1:53.43 and won the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 1:50.12. In addition, he swam the breaststroke leg on the 200 medley relay team that set a new McHugh Natatorium record of 1:32.07.
