East Carolina Overpowers George Mason

FAIRFAX, VA. - East Carolina swept the top three spots in six women's events and five men's events as the Pirates defeated the George Mason women 166-109 and the Patriot men 159-121 in Colonial Athletic Association swimming dual meet action Sunday at the Mason Aquatic and Fitness Center.

The Pirates took first, second and third place in the 50, 100, 200 and 1000 freestyle and the 100 and 200 backstroke on the women's side. The ECU men swept the 50, 200 and 500 free, the 200 back and the 200 butterfly. Mason diver Jamie Downing (Midlothian, VA) set new school records in both diving events. The freshman posted a 295.42 on the one-meter board, crushing her own school mark of 262, and registered a 264.82 in the three meter.

Samantha Perry won the 100 and 200 breaststroke for the Pirate women, and Courtney Foster took first in the 50 and 100 free. Tracey Ormand finished first in the 1000 free, and Dana Fuller won the 200 free. Amy Hendrick placed first in the 100 back, while Abby Stallworth won the 200 back. Julie Brenegan won the 500 free.

Stephen Parsons won the 50 and 100 free to pace the East Carolina men. Matt Walker won the 1000 free, and Claes Lindgren placed first in the 200 free. Chris Johnson finished first in the 100 back, and Matt Wildrick won the 200 fly. William Powell won the 200 back, and Daniel Walters took first in the 500 free.

Cameron Charlton (Ontario, Canada) won the 100 and 200 breast and the 400 IM to lead the Mason men. Tim Fisher (Kokomo, KS) and Kyle Troop (Poolesville, MD) took first and second in both diving events. Nathan Kellogg (Sandston, VA) won the 100 fly, and Eric Stehle (Midlothian, VA) finished second in the 1000 free.

Christy Milstead (Burke, VA) won the 100 and 200 fly, and Ashley Craw (Nashville, TN) finished second in both diving events to pace the Patriot women. Louise Middlemore (Nottingham, England) won the 400 IM and took second in the 100 and 200 breast.

Both Mason squads will swim their final two dual meets of the season next weekend. The Patriots close their home season with a 5 p.m. meet against Villanova Friday, Jan. 26. Mason will swim at George Washington Saturday, Jan. 27. The Patriots host the CAA Championships for the second straight year at the Aquatic and Fitness Center beginning Wednesday, Feb. 21.
