Woessner, Christoferson and LaVoi Get Big Ten Honors

Jan 26, 2001

Susan Woessner of Indiana and Katy Christoferson of Minnesota share the Big Ten Swimmer Of The Week Honors this week.

Woessner was honored after her record setting performance at Purude January 20. She swam the 100 back in 55.60 to break her own school record of 56.54 and set a new Lambert Pool record. Woessner's time is a provisional qualifying time for the NCAA meet. Last year a 55.79 was good enough to compete nationally. At Purdue she also won the 200 back in 2:03.82 and anchored the second place 400 free relay.

Christoferson won three individual events and participated on a winning relay team as Minnesota defeated Iowa, 186-114, last Saturday at the University Aquatic Center. She won the 50 freestyle (24.27), 100 butterfly (56.49) and 200 individual medley (2:06.80), and helped set a meet record in the 200 medley relay (1:46.82).

University of Minnesota diver Tracy LaVoi picked up the Big Ten Diver Of The Week honor for the second time this season.

LaVoi won both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions in the dual meet against Iowa, leading the Gopher divers to a 28-10 advantage in the two diving events. She set a season-best in 1-meter diving (260.475) and barely missed a season-best in 3-meter diving (268.875). LaVoi has qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving meet in March.
