Loyola Loses Three Straight, Falls to Delaware

NEWARK, DE - Loyola men's and women's swimming and diving team loss to Delaware Saturday at Rawstrom Natatorium. The Blue Hen men (3-7) snapped a seven-meet losing streak with a 150-137 victory over Loyola (2-5) while the Blue Hen women improved to 4-6 with a 165-119 victory over the Greyhounds.

Loyola will close out its dual meet season January 31 at Iona in preparation for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championships Feb. 15-17 at the Fitness and Aquatic Center.

The Delaware men, 13-1 all-time vs. Loyola, captured nine events as Mike Gallaher captured two freestyle events and Neumann Marlett, Tim Wasiewski, Rick Dressel, and Brian Salcetti all won individual events and teamed up to capture the 200 medley relay in 1:41.40.

Other winners for Delaware were Kevin Weisser (Franklin Regional/Murrysville, PA) in the 1,650 freestyle (17:16.17) and Brendan Donnelly (Delran, NJ HS) in the 100 backstroke (57.54). Loyola's Jamie Barone won both the 100 breaststroke (1:00.97) and 400 individual medley (4:40.61). The Greyhounds 200 freestyle relay team of J. Andrew Haskell, Brent Grega, Tyler Furek and Michael Hoffman took first place with a time of 1:31.10.

The Delaware women, 9-0 all-time vs. Loyola (3-4), won 10 events as Kathryn Fryer (Severna Park, MD HS) and Sandy Stephens (St. Mark's/Wilmington, DE) each won three events and Meghan Petry (Villa Walsh/New Providence, NJ) and Jennifer Haus (St. Mark's/Newark, DE) each won twice.

For Loyola, Cara Pensabene won both the 200 freestyle (2:00.71) and 200 freestyle relay (1:48.66) while Sarah O'Donnell won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. The Greyhounds 200 freestyle relay, powered by Sara Lentz, Pensabene, Julie Nowark and Erin O'Brien, captured first place with a time of 1:48.66.
