Canada Confident On Arrival In India

Sep 30, 2010  - Craig Lord

Canadians are confident that a fine show at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi next week is in prospect as they arrived in the Indian capital from a successful staging camp in Singapore.

"I’m really impressed with the professionalism and poise of this team as they prepare for the Games," said Randy Bennett, Head Coach of the Commonwealth Games team. "There’s a sense of calm and readiness amongst the athletes, and I feel that we will be ready to compete in Delhi in a few days."

Sprint freestyler Richard Hortness added: "You always want to get acclimatised to where you will be competing which means getting your body used to the time and conditions for ultimate performance. I feel that the team is quite fantastic.  We have worked really hard in Singapore and we just came off two great competitions this past summer. We will definitely feed on that to go into Delhi and compete. I'm really excited to get there and start racing."

The 27-member strong team arrived in India today and will take their first plunge at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Pool, tomorrow.
