Do You Have A Shanghai Mission In Mind?

Sep 13, 2010  - Craig Lord

An adventure and a half awaits the coach willing to put skills and energies on the line at the heart of the biggest sporting system on Planet Earth: Shanghai Swimming, the strongest provincial team in China with numerous world and Olympic medallists on its score sheet in recent years, is looking for a foreign coach.

As part of a long-term plan, Shanghai's search is for "a successful, motivated and enthusiastic foreign coach to join its existing coaching staff".

The official advert for the job reads:

  • "You will be based at a purpose built training centre which provides ‘campus style’ accommodation and catering facilities. The aquatic building is state of the art, with 10 lane 25m and 50m pools, flume and low oxygen chamber. There are additional dry land facilities located within the training centre itself.
  • "The job entails selecting a group from existing team swimmers, and planning their long term development with a particular focus on the 2013 China National Games, as well as assisting with the on-going professional development of our existing coaches.
  • "Priority will be given to those coaches who can demonstrate a track record of success in distance freestyle and IM events.
  • "Shanghai Swimming are offering an attractive package commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition they are offering: health insurance, 1 return flight home each year, accommodation, meals and annual paid vacation."

An aquatic adventure and a half.
