Indian media outlets are reporting that a diver was injured today at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Complex during the National Federation Cup, a test event off the boards for the Commonwealth Games.

The victim was Priyanka Banejee, of West Bengal, who sustained several injuries to a leg when the cover on a water drainage system came loose as she walked around the pool to compete. It could have been worse: apparently there are no railings on the diving tower...

A swim meet held at the same venue almost ended in disaster, according to Indian reports: the temporary roof on the facility is said to have "given way". One media outlet reported: "It was a lucky escape for the organisers, as no swimmers were around. More than 250 swimmers and divers are taking part in this tournament."

A whole new meaning to the term test event.
