Feb 13, 2001

The University of Kentucky men's swimming and diving teams were defeated by second-ranked Tennessee, 110-74, on Saturday, Feb. 10, at UK's Lancaster Aquatic Center. The men finish the season 5-2 overall, 1-1 in the Southeastern Conference.

Despite the loss, the Wildcats swam well at the meet, posting one broken school record, five career best times, 14 season best times and four NCAA provisional qualification times. The 200 medley and freestyle relays were both season best times and the time in the 200 freestyle relay provisionally qualified Kentucky for NCAAs. Individually, Macon White won the 200 freestyle, breaking a school record in the process, and earning an NCAA provisional time, while in the same event, David Tweedie swam to a season best time and the NCAA provisional cut. White and Tweedie were one-two in the 200 freestyle.

Shaun Zitani improved his time in the 50 freestyle for a season best time and a provisional cut for NCAAs, and Aaron Workman swam to a career best and provisional cut in the 50 freestyle. Zitani and Workman went one-two in the event. Two other Wildcats, Fernando Barros and White also posted career bests in the event. In diving, Aaron Kirkpatrick finished second in both events.

Next, Kentucky will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., Feb. 21-24, to compete in the SEC meet.
