Auburn Men Qualify NCAA Swimmers At Martin Invitational

Mar 4, 2001

AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn University men's swim team had a successful day hosting the James E. Martin Invitational Saturday, qualifying swimmers for the NCAA Championships to be held March 22-24 in College Station, Texas.

Sophomore Pat Calhoun was the lone Auburn swimmer to achieve the "A" cut which automatically qualifies a swimmer for the NCAA meet. Calhoun raced to a time of 53.86 in the 100 breast to reach the cut time of 54.62.

There were nine Auburn swimmers who achieved their top "B" cut time on the day with Kevin Clements (200 individual medley, 200 breast), Nick Kozyra (100 and 200 fly) and Brandon Roberts (200 and 500 free) earning the cut in two events, while Richard Long (200 IM, 200 free, 100 free) picked up three.

A "B" cut for the NCAA meet can mean one of two things for the swimmer. If the participant already has an "A" cut in another event, a "B" cut time will qualify them for that event. If they do not have an "A" cut in another event, the "B" cut time will only be considered after other times ahead of the swimmer.
