News Round-Up: Chiuso Says Ciao

Italy: Cristina Chiuso, Italian women's captain and national 50m free record holder, has retired from the race pool just shy of her 36th birthday. She goes with 41 Italian titles to her credit, European silver medals in the medley relay and 50m free in 2005, and three Olympic selections. Chiuso spoke of the nostalgia she already felt for "questo bellissimo sport", of the emotion that she had felt in the pool down the years and the "fantastic people" she had met. 

Italy: Olympic and world champion and record holder Aaron Peirsol (USA), Olympic relay gold medallist Cullen Jones (USA), Dutch sprinter and Olympic relay champion Inge Dekker and German backstroke sprinter Daniela Samulski are among the entries for the 13th meeting of Bolzano on November 7-8. 

France: Saint-Raphaël will host the 2010 French l/c championships on April 13-18. The town stepped up to the mark after the withdrawal of Chalon-sur-Saône.

Britain: Ben Titley, head of the Loughborough centre of excellence and personal coach to Liam Tancock, world 50m backstroke champion, has been named BSCTA Coach of the Year by the British Swimming Coaches and Teachers Association. Coaching Awards of Excellence were awarded to Martin Wilby (Florida), coach to world 100m backstroke champion Gemma Spofforth, Kevin Renshaw, coach to world-record setter and triple medallist at Rome 2009 Joanne Jackson, and Sean Kelly, coach to world marathon champion Kerri Anne Payne.
