Rome 2009, Day 7

Women's 50m freestyle

Cate Campbell (AUS) went through at the helm in 50m free heats. Her 24.24 set a championship record, 0.21sec inside the 2001 standard of Inge de Bruijn (NED).  Not a single championship record has been left standing so far in Rome.

Therese Alshammar (SWE) and Amanda Weir (USA) came home next, 23.30 and 23.36. Marleen Veldhuis (NED), Britta Steffen (GER) and Fran Halsall (GBR) were next through, the Brit's 24.47 a national record. All inside the 24.53sec in which Australian Libby Lenton (later Trickett)  won the world title in 2007.
