American Short Course Championship Results

AUSTIN, Texas - Several Longhorns posted top finishes for Texas in the final day of competition at the American Short Course Championships on Saturday, March 10 at the Jamail Swim Center.

Swimming unattached, junior Valerie Oswald (Charlottesville, Va.), who is sitting out the 2000-01 season after transferring from Virginia to Texas, claimed first-place honors in the 200 IM (2:00.53). Freshman Michael Halika (Jerusalem, Israel) finished second in the men's 200 individual medley with a time of 1:49.49, while sophomore Timmy Chung (Mercer Island, Wash.) touched fifth (1:51.66). Competing in the 100 freestyle, freshmen Austin McAnally (Sherman, Texas) (45.96) and Matt Timberlake (The Woodlands, Texas) (44.96) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

Former Longhorns also posted strong performances in the final night of competition. Olympian Neil Walker claimed the 100 freestyle in a time of 43.59, while former Longhorn Bryan Jones finished second (43.76). Tammie Spatz-Stone notched her third individual title of the meet, winning the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.64. Sophomore Heidi Hendrick (Saginaw, Mich.) followed in ninth place with a time of 52.49.
