PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh women's swimming and diving team had its two-meet win streak snapped with a 159-141 loss at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center in Piscataway, N.J., to Big East Conference rival Rutgers on Friday afternoon.

The Panthers (2-2, 1-2 Big East) did win seven of the 16 events, but the Scarlet Knights had more second and third-place finishes to claim victory in the meet.

Carolyne Savini (Egg Harbour Township, N.J./Holy Spirit) and Jen O'Brien (Verona, Pa./Penn Hills) won two events each for the Panthers, while Ryan Redman (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and Kristina DeWitt (Houston, Texas/Stratford) won one event. The Panthers also took first place in the 200 medley relay.

Savini won the 100 and 200 yard backstroke with times of 57.99 and 2:04.45, respectively. O'Brien, a sophomore diver, won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions with scores of 275.77 on the 1-meter springboard and 263.85 on the 3-meter board.

Redman, ranked 14th in the world in the 50 breaststroke, won the 100 breast on Friday. She swam it in a time of 1:04.04, beating DeWitt by over three and a half seconds.

DeWitt got a victory of her own in the 200 breast with a time of 2:23.93, topping Redman by 0.47 seconds.

The Panthers' first victory came in the meet's very first event, the 200 medley relay, when Savini, Redman, Katie Nicholson (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy) and Jenny Livingstone (Endwell, N.Y./Union-Endicott) swam it in 1:46.62 to beat Rutgers' top team by 1.57 seconds.
